Recruitment

Recruitment usually begins in O-Week. You will need to submit a formal application through the ‘Join Us’ tab or through our Facebook page.

  1. If successful, you will be invited to an interview. Applications are assessed on a rolling basis, so interviews are held from the beginning of the recruitment to around Week 5.

  2. If offered a position in the team, you will begin formal training from around Week 5 until Week 7. It will consist of workshops that teach you everything, from the basics to creating your project.

  3. Then you are part of the team! In the following project season you will begin working on your project.

Recruitment Tips

  • Step 1: Brush up on your coding skills

    We are happy if you know any coding languages! However, our DL projects are mainly written in Python, whilst our HPC projects are usually written in Linux.

    Step 2: Refine Your Soft Skills

    At MDN, being a friendly teammate is as important as a being coding-savvy one!

    ⟡ Break down what you think makes you a good team member

    ⟡ Brush up on your clear communication

    ⟡ Think about what makes you passionate for the role you are applying for!

    Step 3: Give a Project a Shot!

    ⟡ Try your own project! You don’t have to be an expert and it doesn’t have to be a perfect/completed project.

    ⟡ Jump onto our blog series that take you step by step through the DL or HPC basics.

    ⟡ Search online ‘Beginner Deep Learning Project’ or ‘Easy High-Performance Computing Task’, there are heaps of easy, small and fun projects to do!

    ⟡ Step us through the bugs/problems you have faced in your project

  • ⟡ Tell us about your leadership and communication experiences (experience in contacting companies and planning events is useful!)

    ⟡ Show us you are passionate about industry relations

    ⟡ Present and speak confidently in your interview

    ⟡ Suggest some creative MDN event ideas + potential companies we should collaborate with

  • ⟡ Bring a creative mind and passion to create bespoke designs for a range of campaigns

    ⟡ Gain some experience with utilising Canva and Adobe for generating content such as social media posts

  • ⟡ Experience with a diverse portfolio of social media channels, including LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok is preferrable

    ⟡ Come prepared to share and engage in fun and unique social media campaigns

    ⟡ Strong written and verbal communication skills are highly desirable

  • ⟡ Show you have great presentation and public speaking skills with relevant past experiences

    ⟡ Experience in outreach / community work / leadership is not necessary, just be passionate!

  • ⟡ Show your passion for the intersection of law, ethics & AI

    ⟡ Justify your initiative, communication and time management skills with past experiences

    ⟡ Have a brainstorm about a relevant legal issue of your choice and be able to explain to us why you find it interesting

    ⟡ No restrictions on experience in this field, anyone is welcome to apply!
