Moral Agency & AI
How does one determine whether an action is good or bad?
Most people use some form of moral framework to rationalise the ‘goodness’ of their decisions.
Vegetarians might not eat meat because they place value on the welfare of animals. While others might be okay with it as they believe in human dominion over other animal life.
A person’s moral framework, and therefore morality is subjective and can be drawn from lots of different influences such as national identity, the religion and culture of their close peers and family, socioeconomic background, gender, age and so on.
Broad generalisations can be made about the morality of certain groups of people. For example, most Western countries have adopted the values of liberalism that promotes individual rights, civil liberties, democracy, and free enterprise. This is contrasted to more collectivist countries which prioritises the group over individuals, as seen in some eastern nations.
